The Cure

Bought a ticket off my friend who couldn't make it to the concert because of a last minute business trip. I was told the cheap seats were sold out so I was glad to get the ticket until I got a call from another friend offering me a free ticket!!! sian boy...

I was excited about the concert but more for nostalgic reasons than watching the band play live. The Cure was never much of a concert band.

I didn't quite follow The Cure after their "Disintegration" album. Although they had a couple of hum-able tunes in the later albums (Club America in Wild Mood Swings), nothing quite matched up to those songs in "Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me" or "Disintegration".

If you are new to The Cure, I suggest getting "Mixed Up" (i love the album cover). I know... i know... i can already hear the curses hurling at me cos many complained that a great injustice was done to the songs, the remixes killed the songs. But "Mixed Up" is like a greatest hits record with a twist, so what is there not to like??? Just treat this like a follow up to "Standing On A Beach". Check out remixes of "A Forest", "Love Song","Inbetween Days"... they are pretty cool.

It was great fun at the concert, kind of like a reunion of sorts, met many friends there that I have not seen in ages.

The concert started just before 8.30 pm. Robert smith was... robert smith (RS), not much of a showman before and probably too heavy for any theatrical antics now with him weighing twice what he used to. But it was worth the while when hits like "Friday I'm in Love" started blasting from the concert speakers. Got the whole stadium on their feet and me shaking my butt (a sight that apparently caused the people seated behind me to go into convulsions. I wonder why?)

Growing up, RS was iconic, he was THE ultimate gothic rocker...

However, time has really taken it's toil...

and apparently, given RS quite a beating... I recall a time when he had a neck.

Midway through the concert, my mind started to drift and a scary thought hit me. Would anyone notice if RS was replaced by Chen Liping (MediaCorp artise)??? *shudder*

Shocking...

The concert ended after 3 hours, way past my bedtime but it was good while it lasted, just like all things in life...
